May 2025 DSP Spotlight: Marcy Collins

StationMD’s DSP Spotlight series celebrates Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), who play an essential role in the lives of individuals with disabilities, offering care, companionship, and unwavering support. We constantly recognize their hard work and the profound impact they make every day. This month, we are proud to highlight Marcy Collins of Wesley Family Services in Pennsylvania, whose dedication and compassion exemplify the very best of direct support work.

Marcy Collins has been a dedicated member of Wesley Family Services, bringing knowledge, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the individuals she serves. Since day one, Marcy has gone above and beyond to ensure those in her care feel valued, respected, and supported. Despite this being her second job, she devotes her evenings to taking individuals on special outings, treating them as part of her extended family. Her dedication and love for her work are evident in everything she does, making her a truly deserving nominee for this DSP Spotlight.

Marcy is especially known for her exceptional care when working with individuals on hospice. She provides gentle, compassionate support, ensuring they experience comfort and dignity in their final days. The smiles on their faces are a testament to the kindness and warmth she brings to their lives. Beyond her direct care, Marcy also serves as a pillar of support for her colleagues. Fellow staff members often seek her out for guidance and reassurance, knowing she offers not only expertise but also deep empathy and understanding. She is appreciated not just for what she does but for the heart she puts into her work every day.

“The individuals I care for help inspire me to be a better person,” Marcy shares. Her passion for caregiving shines through in every aspect of her work, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those around her.

Outside of her role as a DSP, Marcy has a passion for food and family. She helps run a catering company with her loved ones, bringing people together over shared meals and cherished moments.

For those working in direct support roles, Marcy offers valuable advice: “Although it is not always easy, be patient with the individuals. I like to approach most situations—especially challenging ones—as a team with the individuals. When they feel like they are helping me with a situation, it gives them trust and respect, as well as builds their own self-confidence. This also helps them view me more as an ally than just DSP staff.”

Marcy has also witnessed firsthand the impact of StationMD’s specialized telehealth services. “When we first joined StationMD, I had an individual who was experiencing lethargy following some medication changes. The StationMD providers helped recommend adjustments that I could bring to the individual’s primary care provider. My issue occurred on a Saturday, and they provided suggestions for me to follow until the primary care provider could make the necessary medication changes.”

Her experience highlights how StationMD’s accessibility and expertise help DSPs provide the best care possible, ensuring that individuals receive timely medical support without unnecessary stress or delay.

Marcy Collins embodies the true spirit of a Direct Support Professional—dedicated, compassionate, and always willing to go the extra mile. Her unwavering commitment to those she serves makes a profound impact, and we are honored to recognize her in this DSP Spotlight.
